English Language Challenges

Hi everyone!

Almost it’s the end of the semester and I think this year passed very fast. Well, this is my last post, number ten. So, today, I'm going to talk about my English Courses and the use of blogs. In my opinion, the English courses has been very necessary for me and for any professional, because English language is important nowadays, because in most cases or in all cases, the important papers, publications, books for my career and for any career are in English; so it's necessary to learn this language for professional life. Besides, it’s one of my challenges to learn very well English. So, I liked this subject at University and from my point of view is a great initiative.

The use of blogs in this course is very important, because with their use I learned to express my opinion in English; also I learned grammar and how writing in English, this is a point very important, because when I have to write a paper, I'll have to write the document in Spanish and English too, so it's very necessary learn to write in English and the blogs are a way to learn to write in this language. 

The aspects of my English that I need to be improved are: a little of grammar, the order when I’m writing, listening and my confidence to speak in English then, my plan for improved this things is reading books and documents in English, seeing movies and series without subtitles in English.

In these days, I using English almost all days for translate songs and for read papers that professors give me.

Year 2014!

Hi everyone!!

Today, I'm going to talk about year 2014. Well, this year has been good and bad; also I’m so impress, because time passes so fast. So, this year has been good, because the first semester I passed all my subjects, my cousins and my uncles arrived from Venezuela, my uncle cut my hair and I’m so happy for that. Besides, in this year I knew different places of Chile, because I went to Frutillar (practice) and Tongoy in the summer and in the winter I went to “Cerro el Roble” and “Jardín Botánico de Viña del Mar”; also I’m an assistant of a subject about botany and taxonomy of plants and I went to concert of Demi Lovato with my sister.

This year has been bad, because has been a year since my cousin death and I miss him so much and I still don’t accept the notice about his death. Besides, in this semester I got a very bad mark in an exam and I’m so sad for that.

In this year I’ve achieved many things: I achieved be an assistant of a subject and I achieved work in a lab; also in this year I achieved go to the psychologist, because I needed it for personal motives. On the other hand, the last part of this year I hope achieve some of my goals, I would like to learn more about identification of woods, botany, lichens and moss, because this topics are very interesting for me and I hope to work in the future about that.

Facebook

Hi everyone!!

Today, I'm going to talk about Facebook. Since 6 years ago I have a Facebook’s account, because all my “friends” had an account on Facebook and  I bored so much, because I didn’t know to use it, but one day my uncle shows me a game called “Pet society” and I liked so much. Actually, I use it to “talk” with my friends and my family and it’s useful to organize different things, like work of University; also I use this virtual platform to obtain information about interesting topics, like mushroom, plants, Bryophyte, animals, different activities for save the world (Greenpeace activities) and obtain information about my favorite TV series, singers, actors and actress. So, I like Facebook, because it’s funny and I can share with other people the things that I like. Besides, I like it, because I can find members of my family, lost members and I can find to my childhood friends. On the other hand, Facebook has negative aspects and positive aspects. The negative aspects are: reduce the direct communication between people; also, some people use Facebook to hack account and they write bad things on your account. Furthermore, also some people use Facebook to trick people and commit crimes. By contrast, the positive aspects is that Facebook can reduce the distances with our friends and familiars, for example I have a friend in Mexico and I have familiars in Venezuela and thank to Facebook I can establish a long distance conversation with them.

Think green!

Hi everyone!!

Today, I'm going to talk about environment. Nowadays, many people don’t understand that the earth need us, it means, the earth need our attention. I think that this happen, because many people don't want to learn how to take care of environment; also it’s not easy to recycle in some countries, for example, in Chile don’t exist a place to recycle batteries or computer pieces. In my opinion that is horrible, because if you want recycle this things, you don’t how to do it. Besides, in general, people learn about environmentally friendly practices at school only, but many people forget it and it doesn’t practice it. In my case, I’m not recycling, because to my family really don’t care do it. So, it’s hard for me recycle in my house. So, for help to environment and reduce my carbon footprint, I use my legs, I try use less paper, I’m trying do a vegetable patch and I supported to Greenpeace, collecting signatures for saves to polar bears, because I want to help and change this world; also other way for change or help a little this world, I would like to be vegetarian, because I want to finish with animal maltreatment. Besides, I would like to recycle. On the other hand, I think that Santiago is a little missing regarding this issue, because many people really don’t care for nothing how to take care of environment and this is unfortunate.

GMOs

Hi everyone!!

Today, I'm going to talk about GMOs (Genetic Modified Organisms). Well, I have to confess that I don't know anything about GMOs, but I searched information about that. GMO is an organism, such as, a plant, a mushroom or bacteria and an animal. This organism have had specific changes introduced into their DNA using the methods of genetic engineering to produce proteins of industrial interest or to improve some characteristics of organism, like resistance to plagues, nutrition quality, tolerance to frost and others characteristics.

GMOs are used, in agriculture to produce plants or animals that contain special characteristics, like fruit production, wood quality, resistance to plagues, milk and meat production, delay in maturation of food, for example tomatoes, this modification allow it have a better flavor. Besides, GMOs are used in Forestry, principally, in plantations, for example the genetic modification of forest trees allow a better growth, resistance to plagues and frost and a change in the contain of lignin, this point is useful to pulp and paper industry. By contrast, the modification of forest trees can be harmful, because these changes into their DNA can cause damages in the endemic fauna and flora of a place.

In my point of view GMOs can be useful to improve different kind of plants, but it must be used with caution. However, I reject the idea about used animals like GMOs.

My Future Job

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about my future job. Well, in this moment I’m studying Forestry at University of Chile and in the future I would like work in identification of wood and plants, because I like wood and its structure and composition and I like plants, because plants are interesting and amazing, regarding its forms, structures, compositions, heights. So, in the future I would like to work outdoors (forests), because I don’t like offices; also my career is about nature and environment. So, in my future job I imagine in a forest, identifying species of plants and save the environment, besides I would like to travel around the world and I would like to know different landscape of the world and I would like to identify species of plants; however, I would like to know all woods of the world and its structure; besides one of my dreams is known to Hyperion (Sequoia sempervirens), tallest tree in the world, because it’s my favorite tree and I love it. This tree is located in the Redwood National Park, California, United Stated and someday, I hope work in that park. Furthermore, the major that I thinking of taking is wood identification and paleobotany, because I like fossils very much; also with the paleobotany, you can change the taxonomy of some plants and discover new plants and this is amazing for me.

Animals

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about animals. Well, my favorite animals are: Sloth, because is an animal very beautiful and adorable and it has a happy face, Eagle, because I think that eagle’s hunting skills is amazing, Elephant, because is a huge animal and crocodile, because is very similar to Dinosaurs and I love Dinosaurs. So, my dream was know dinosaurs, above everything to T-Rex, but unfortunately, they are extinct.

In my life I had 3 pets; the first one I had a dog, the second one I had a hamster, called Stuart, but I didn’t this name and it died, because Stuart was too old :c and the third one I had a guinea pig, called Milka, but it died and now I have a guinea pig again, its name is Mostaza and its favorite food is lettuce, Mostaza is fat and lazy, but my dream pet is a Bobtail, because is a dog very hairy and I love it.

Lastly, I’m going to talk about avoid abandoned dogs. Well, I think that is horrible abandoned dogs, because they suffer when you abandoned without mercy, this topic is a problem, because dogs can turn in a plague.

The best concert ever

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about the best concert I’ve ever attended. Well, the concert was Thursday, may 8, 2014 at Movistar Arena, Santiago, Chile and I saw Demi Lovato.

Demi Lovato is an actress, singer and a composer from The United States, she’s 22 years old; her artistic career started in 2002, like actress in Barney & Friends. Her artistic career, like singer, started in 2008 with the film Camp Rock.

The atmosphere I could see during the event was very good and comfortable with high levels of security and excited people and I like it so much. In my life I have been two concerts, the first I saw Miley Cyrus and the second I saw Demi Lovato and my favorite was Demi Lovato concert, because I felt very good, excited and anxious, besides I went with my sister and we sang, shouted and jumped. I remember that day had an awful traffic and we had waited too much and it was horrible, stressful and boring, so my half-brother accompanied us to Movistar Arena’s entrance.  In spite of everything, it was the best day of my life.

Permaculture

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about a video, called “7 Food Forests in 7 minutes with Geoff Lawton", where Lawton show 7 differents foods that you can obtain of forest, he created a sustainable ecosystem based in the naturals ecosystems, where he used soil of the other plantations with an important quantity of organic material and he sowed different food, like wheat, mangoes, custard apple and others, all of these points form correspond to Permaculture. This term refers to system, where exist a relation between the life of humans, animals and plants to provide the basic needs of them, in others words the permaculture is an ecological design system and you can do it in your home.

Well, in my opinion is an excellent idea, because we can live in peace with the nature. Besides, the possibility of using this system in Chile is viable, because any person, interested in the topic, can make a system like that.

"The Earth From Above"

Hi everyone!

It’s a new semester!

Today, I'm going to talk about a conference called "The Earth from Above" by Yann-Arthus- Bertrand. Well, this person talks about the relationship that exists between the planet or the Earth and the humans. Besides, he talks about the influence or impact of us on the Earth and how we are destroying the planet for have a better life, also he talks about the movie that he make, this film is called “Home” and he make personal interviews from around the world with 40 questions about what is important in the life.
In my point of view, this conference is very necessary and important for we (the humans), because Yann-Arthus- Bertrand say the true about the destroy of the Earth and he talks about the carelessness that we have with the environment, the earth that we live. Besides, I like the movie “Home”, because is free, it mean, I can download the film on internet and that is fantastic. To finish, I agree with Yann-Arthus- Bertrand about that we’re going faster than the planet can sustain.

Hi everyone!

How are you? I hope that you’re fine. Is the end of the semester and I think that passed very fast and I can’t believe it. Well, this is my last post, number ten. So, today, I'm going to talk about my experience of using blogs in the English class. In my opinion, it was a great experience, because I learn to express my opinion in English and it was funny, because the topics are interesting, even though, some topics I didn't like me, because are boring for me, for example the post about choose an article, that post I didn't like me, because I didn't know that article choose and it was a little difficult for me. By contrast, the post 8 I liked very much, because I love the films, also I liked the post 9, because is my dream travel around the world. Well, with this experience, I feel that my writing skills progress quite good and I feel that I learned English very much.
In the future I would like include other topics like music, pets and family, because I think that this topics are interesting and funny and I like it.

Travels

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about a country that I would like to visit. Well, since that I was a little girl, one of my dreams is travel around the world, but in specific to United States, because I like the culture, the language, the food and the landscapes of the country, also I would like know Disneyland and Redwood National and State Parks, because I know that in this park find the Giant Sequoia, my favorite tree.

In this country, I would like live, study Paleobotany and work like teacher at the school and University, because I love teach and help people. Besides, one of my objectives in my life is live in USA with my best friend and my sister, but for a little time, like 3 years and I hope fulfill this goal. By contrast, I would like travel to Canada and London, because I like the culture and the landscapes, and I would like work in these countries, because their landscapes are beautiful.

My Favorite Film

Hi everyone!!

Today, I'm going to talk about films. Well, I love films, because the movies are funny and for a moment I feel that can escape to the reality and I can forget the troubles.

I don’t have any favorite actor or actress and the kinds of films that I like it are mainly science fiction, but also I like others kinds of films, like drama, thrillers and animated films. So, my favorite film is “Jurassic Park”, is a science fiction adventure film that it was directed by Steven Spielberg in 1993 and it’s based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. Well, I like this film so much, because it’s funny and as far back as I can remember that I like the dinosaurs, in special the T-rex, the Jurassic’s life, the evolution, the fossils and all this things. Besides, it’s a good film, because the dinosaurs look very real, and now I expect for the premiere of Jurassic Park 4!

DL 701

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about an article that related my career. The article that I choose is about DL 701, this article explain that DL 701 is a threaten to the patrimony social, cultural and natural of Chile, because this law promote to the plantation development, therefore DL 701 affect to the Native Forests of Chile and the Mapuches, because in the last time 2,4 hectares, approximately has been replace for plantations and the Mapuche land has been taken for plantations and this could be a cause of “Mapuche conflict”. Besides, the plantations cause the soil erosion and the Biodiversity decrease, because in a plantation the people used pesticides, herbicides and fungicides that affect to the animals, because are toxic. So, it’s important that this law has another model that can include the Native Forests conservation.
Well, I like this article, because is interesting and I would like to conserve the Native Forests and it’s necessary that DL will be change, also in my field this article is important and useful, because one of the objectives of my career is the conservation of Native Forests.

The World Soccer Championship 2014

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about the problems in Brazil and the world soccer championship 2014. To start with this topic, first we need to know that the problem is that Brazilians have been protesting against the government, because they accuse that the government spending such huge amounts of money in a country that has a lot of other needs. Well, I agree whit the people, because I think that Brazil and all countries should spend much money in things more important, in things that the people needs, like houses of good quality, education, hospitals (health) and a fair salary. In others terms, the Brazilian government should eradicate the poverty and hunger in his country. So, in my opinion is unacceptable that in a county the soccer can be more important than the people and it’s a pity that the government spend money in a soccer championship that in help to the people, and always ask me, how a government can celebrated something if his country is a mess?

My favorite photograph

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about my favorite photograph. Well, I don’t have a favorite photograph, but I try to choose one. So, this photograph it was taken in my birthday, April 17, 2010, and it was taken by my uncle. Well, this photograph shows to me and my cousin and I like it, because it was I turned 15 years old, an age important in the life of people, so my mom and my family was very excited for that and I remember that I was very happy in this day, because all my family and my friends arrived to greet me, so I enjoyed that day very much, besides I like it, because I was with a person very special for me, my favorite cousin, called Jean, and this photograph is very important for me, because unfortunately in September 21, 2013 he died, so this photograph it’s a way that I have to remember all the moments that I lived with him.

The disaster in Valparaiso‏

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about the disaster in Valparaiso. To start with this topic, first we need know that the fires in our country, affect a million of forest hectares and it’s very necessary prevent it. Well, the fire of Valparaiso happened the Saturday in the afternoon and it finished the Monday, it was horrible, because many people died and it was many victims too. The motives of this fire are unknown, but I suspect that the main reasons that produced all of this tragedy was a short-circuit in a house, a person solder something or a burning cigarette‏. I think that the fires in general and this fire in particular, could be prevented if the people are detailed with their activities and prevent the short-circuits and avert throw the burning cigarettes in a place with inflammable things. Now if I’m charge of this situation, I don't know that I would do, but  I would try to save all people somehow.

My favourite piece of technology

                                

Hi everyone!!

Today, I'm going to talk about my favourite piece of technology. In my opinion, the technology is very important thing in these days, because all in this world is based on the technology. So, if I have to choose a piece of technology, I will select the laptop.

The laptop is a small, portable and light computer that you can go anywhere with it. With this piece of technology,  I can found information that interest me, I can play and distract me, I can listen music, I can watch video and films and I can talk with my friends and people that live in other parts of the world, also, it’s very helpful in my studies. I like it and it’s one of my favourite piece of technology, because is confortable, you don’t need to stay in a desktop forever and it’s so easy to handle and I can’t imagine my life without it.

My subjects

Hi everyone!

Today, I'm going to write about the subjects that I'm doing this term. Well, the subjects that I'm doing this term are Mathematics and Computer Programming , this subjects are a little complicated for me, because the exercises are hard and sometimes, I don't undestand it, other subjects are Trees Growth and Structure and Function of ecosystems, in this subjects, I can know how the trees grow and how is its development and I can know about the biology of the trees and that it's fascinating for me, because I like the Biology, also I can know about ecosystems and how it's its function, well in this subjctes I do presentations about environmental problems,  stem analysis,  in other things. The others subjects I'm doing is Products and Services of the forests, in this subjects I know the products, like wood and services, like investigation, of the forests and its problems, and It's interesting know that, and finally the other subject that I'm doing it's English, in  this subject I learn to write, listen and speak in this languague and I like that.

Finally, I expect that in this new academic period I achieve my goals and I can have good marks.

IMMIGRATION

Hi everyone!
Today, I'm going to talk about immigration in Chile. Well, I think that the immigration is a way that have the people for beginning a new life far away for the problems or just it's a way for know new cultures of the others countries.
I think that the arrival of foreigners in Chile is good if the immigration levels are low, by contrast, if the immigration levels are high, the immigration can be bad for Chile, because it will exist a overpopulation in the country. So, I think that our country is prepared to receive immigrant, but in low levels.
